...this old blog has been in hibernation for almost a month and a half now, I want to apologize and reassure you that I'm fine...although I had a cold that lasted almost 6 weeks. It just wouldn't go away, but I didn't let it stand in the way of enjoying the holidays, we had a wonderful Christmas, lots of quality time with the family and lots of baby cuddles. and a lot of television knitting!

I also have some news to share with you, in 6 months are family will welcome another baby, Cari and Jason are expecting a baby in July.
Dylan is going to be a big brother and I'm going to be a grandmother of 5!!! I went along with Cari to her first doctor appointment last week, and heard the heart beat ♥. yes we are very excited!
I haven't started any knitting for him or her yet...but I'll be casting on soon.

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas

...well here it is December 11 already, wow how time flies, I'm just about ready for the big day, I have all my shopping done except for the groceries and stocking stuffers, that I like to do last minute.
My Christmas knitting is 80% finished.

The tree is up and decorated, the house is decked out both inside and out! the baking will start on Tuesday!

Nate's very first Christmas concert was last week. I haven't been to a school concert since Cari was in grade 6!!! nothing puts you in the holiday spirit like a school concert! the little voices are so precious! I had tears in my eyes the entire time!

all we need now is the snow.

What a weekend!!! the weather is spectacular, the sun has been shining and the temperatures are in the mid 20's/76 degrees.

We spent Saturday driving through the countryside, in the morning we stopped by Wintermoor Orchard to pick apples... 17lbs of apples! so there will be a lot of applesauce being made!

on the way to the pumpkin patch we drove past Veseys Seeds and notice it was the annual Giant pumpkin weigh-off, so we just had to drop in and check it out! and oh my, what an event it was! there was the weigh off, hayrides, a field full of hay for the kids to have a giant hay-fight, games, pumpkin carving and a barbecue, it was an enjoyable way to spend the afternoon. The boys had a blast!

then to end the day off, we went to Pater's pumpkin patch to get the pumpkins for our Jack-o-lantern carving contest, we may have left it a little too late there weren't many left, but we managed to find some nice looking ones!

We hope everyone has a great Thanksgiving!

My Dad

My dad passed away on the second of September, He was 90, He had perfect health up until early this Summer, when he had a stroke followed by several mini strokes! He was a decent Man who loved his family, He was a labourer who worked hard to keep a roof over our head and food on the table he was a friend to many, He had a infectious smile when you saw it, you couldn't help but smile yourself! He had a fondness for wine,and song, He loved to sing... man did he love to sing, it wasn't uncommon for him to be belting out verses of Mr.Bojangles in the middle of the night! I asked my girls what they would remember most about their granddad and they said his singing! He loved to read he enjoyed the outdoors and loved to walk! He had a good life! and left lots of good memories to look back on.

We love you Dad and may you rest in peace

it has been one crazy summer so far...I'm looking forward to a change in the weather and going to the beach more. I can't believe it's the 21st and I've only been there once! BAD NEWS...it's been cold and rainy most of the summer. GOOD NEWS... I've had lots of time to knit...

I made another Seamless Yoked Baby Sweater , this one in pink,.using Baby Jacquards florals *rosebud* a cool yarn from Bernat,
The sweater only used up about 2/3 of the skein I had more than enough to make a hat to match.

Seamless Yoked Baby Sweater

I wanted to make this sweater after seeing Haley's.
It was a pleasure to knit from start to finish. and quick...casted on Friday afternoon and casted off Sunday 8pm,
A simple and I found it to be a well written pattern, I didn't seem to have a problem with the sleeves that some had? maybe the pattern was corrected at some point in time? I made the sleeves 3.5”long from the underarm, then did a reverse stocking stitch for 3 rounds casting off purl ways. The body 4.5" then the 4 row garter stitch.
I love the pretty smock stitch effect. I had the yarn in my stash I loved the colour so I used it! especially soft, for an acrylic blend! I haven't decided on the buttons yet! I think I'll let Mommy pick them out!
all in all I think it will suit a boy or a girl

I'e been knitting on this pair of socks in dribs and drabs and finally finished them last night!
I'm pleased with the way they turned out.
The yarn is interesting...just waiting for it to go on sale so I can buy some more.
The pattern is just a plain ordinary knee-sock pattern with a bit of shaping, Very easy to knit. I shorten the length by 2"as requested by Cari.

I couldn't find it on Ravelry so I added it to an almost identical "A-Line Dress" project page. It took a little less than 3 skeins of Patons Kroy Socks Stripes in the mulberry Colorway it was a fun quick knit.

My Shalom sweater is 8" from being finished, was hoping to make it a sleeved sweater, but it's starting to look like I might run out of Red Heart Comfort Chunky, and there's no way I want to buy more of it! I'm not too bummed about it tho... because I'm already planning My next Shalom, It will be made using either Shadystrool's or ctomchik mods depending on how adventurous I'm feeling.

My other projects are also near completion , I have finished one of the knee high socks and am about 4" into the second one.

The Bubbakins project is 99.9% completed, just have to block it and piece together. (sorry no picture you'll just have to wait till it's finished)

I have no idea how to use the oregano? Do I try transplanting it outside, or do I try to dry it and store it? We'll have to look that up I guess?

I ran out of yarn while knitting something for Babykins so I thought I'd take a break from knitting while I'm waiting for the yarn to come in ...
Then on a recent visit to Michaels...I spotted some Patons Stretch Socks Fingering, marked down from $6.99 to $2.99 now I've been wanting to try it for sometime, but the reviews weren't great, and I wasn't about to waste $6.99 a ball to try it, so I thought now's my chance to try it...

I'm knitting up a pair of knee high stretch socks #170 by Patons and so far I'm
liking it, but not enough to pay full price for it!
I read that this yarn has a plastic feel to it ? but I don't find that, at all. I also read that it was splitty had knots and thin spots? again not in the yarn I have! I'm planing to go back to Michael and get more while it's still on sale, I know as soon as the girls see them I'll have to make them both a pair!

I used the parsley yesterday to garnish supper!
It was my first time making one of my favourite childhood meals.
It turned out well! So I thought I'd share this simple but delicious recipe with you.

Slow cooker Boiled dinner

1 medium onion quartered
1 corned beef brisket (2 to 4 pounds)
3 carrots, sliced into 2-inch pieces
1 small turnip, sliced into 2-inch pieces
5 small potatoes, cut in half
1 cabbage,cored and quartered
1 Tablespoon, pickling spice
place onions on the bottom Add the corned beef, place the pickling spice on top of meat and then top with carrots turnip and potatoes. Pour in enough water to completely cover the ingredients and meat, and then place the cabbage on top.

Put the slow cooker on a low setting and cover. Cook until the beef is tender, about 8 to 10 hours. Plate corned beef atop of cabbage and vegetables, and serve warm.

we had a fantastic weekend here the temp warmed up and the snow is melting fast! I'm keeping an eye on the basement and it is still dry!

On Friday I casted on Dylan's Birthday sweater, I know it's a little more than a month away, but I wanted to make sure I'd be done in time for his party!

Seeing that he's really into dinosaurs, I thought I'd knit him a Dino sweater! I found a chart for a brontosaurus!( Hubby says "it looks more like an elephant") but as long as Dylan recognizes it as a "Saur!"I'm happy!

I'm using an simple pullover pattern from Family Circle- Easy Knitting, Winter 2002- project 29 in size 4 . Using 2 shades of green! Patons Canadiana Dark green tea and Cedar green

I opted to use a duplicate stitch, I had enough of intarsia with Nate's hockey sweater to last me a lifetime!

I over estimated the amount of yarn needed for the hockey sweater, So I've been looking for ways to use it up, and socks won!

I'm using the pattern Published in Patons #140, Socks, Mitts and Gloves for Children, great book! too bad it's out of print, I got my copy back when my girls were younger! I use this book a lot!

We had Nate over for a few days while his parents were fighting off a cold,

Nate was complaining that my floors were cold and he needed a pair of woolie slippers to keep his feet warm, so I casted on a pair of My Grandmother's Slippers by Kathy North. I still have tons of S.R. Kertzer Northern Worsted in the heartthrob colour way left, so I used it!

I hope all of you had a happy holiday!!! We had an awesome Christmas... to say I was spoiled, is an understatement...way too much money was spent on me this year.

I haven't had time to knit since December 20th, I was far too busy!

My last FO for 2010 was an Irish Hiking Hat... I made 2 actually, one for my Sister, I loved it so much, I had to made one for myself!

I taught both my girls how to knit when they were 7 and 10, but they never continued with it. that's why you could have knocked me over with a feather when Cari asked me if I had any cotton she could use, she wanted to make a dish cloth!!! She remembered everything! How to cast on...the knit stitch and the yarn over!
I think she might be knitting hats next!

Cari loves the new Patons Canadiana yarn, just as much as I do, she wanted a Cable knit Hat knitted with it, she searched through ravelry and found this free pattern by Patons, I had the pattern memorized by the first pattern repeat! so it went rather quickly.

These weren't planned, they were an excuse for me to use up the left over yarn from Dylan's cheeky monkey. This is an old pattern from patons, as a matter of fact I use to make these for my girls when they were little.
The best part of these mitts is the cuff, just long enough to keep the little wrists protected from the cold.

as the weather is getting cooler around here, we even had a trace of snow yesterday! I find myself wanting to make sure my loved ones are kept warm, so I make mittens and hats.

First off is a hat for Jacob. His Mommy loved this one, the Mybootee Babee Chullo and I love it because it's a straight forward knit, it's nice and stretchy, so it will keep up with growing boys, it's fast, you can make it in a couple of evenings.

I also made one for Nate, but he didn't want to model it for me! but it looks like this one, only larger!

Next is a hat for Dylan. His Mommy likes the balaclava style hat, she finds it the warmest and he'll leave it on. and the 4th hat is for Cari, she wanted a slouchy hat, but couldn't decide on a pattern, so I thought I'd get creative and adapt an old pattern from the Patons #98, Family Headwear & Scarves it's the Minaret pattern, my mods were using larger needles and adding a few more sts and rows, I ended up knitting an extra 4 stitches and went up 1 size on the needles and it turned out better than I expected!

Halloween Night

Just thought I'd share a little glimpse into our Halloween, it was very quiet Halloween, I guess because it was a Sunday? we had only 30 or so trick or treaters.

While Hubby stayed at home to hand out the treats. Cari and I took Nate and Dylan around to a few houses on our street

This was all new to Dylan, so Nate showed him how it was done!

I love these mittens I first noticed these when they started showing up on my friends projects page over on Ravelry. and I just knew I just had to make a pair... but the "Magic Loop" technique scared the crap out of me. but when Kelli asked for a pair for her upcoming Birthday, I had no more excuses, For me the Magic Loop was a disaster.

I ended up breaking 2 sets of circular needles, before switching to a set of dpns which work better for me anyway!

This project was in hibernation for almost 11 months, and they would still be there if I hadn't had the big idea of cleaning my hall closet. But there they were.. in a Sobeys bag hanging on a coat hanger. Arrrrrgh,my first thought was, don't even look in the bag, just bin them, but my second thought was to finish them and get it over with! I'm not going to kid you I had a difficult time with them, not the pattern, I actually like the pattern, it was the frigging yarn, I hated every thing about the stuff!!!! I hate the feel of it, the smell of it and worst of all, the sound it makes as it moves across the needles. like chalk on a black board to me.
I could only knit a few rows at a time before I had to put it down, which is way it took forever to complete. Will I wear them? you bet! every day until they fall apart,will I knit them again? not with the Phentex Slipper and Craft Yarn, but maybe with some Patons Classic Wool Merino.

By the way I have a new found respect for my Sister Shirley (peigirl) who would knit these puppies up by the dozen!

This recipe is a favourite of mine, it's from From Cindy's Kitchen
( my son-in-law Mike's Mom)

2 qt red tomato - diced
2 lg green pepper
2 lg. red pepper
1 red onion & 1 reg. onion
4 stalks of celery
1 3 oz. can tomato paste
4 jalapeno peppers - you can add heat to taste.
1/2 cup vinegar
1/2 cup brown sugar
salt & pepper to taste
7 - 8 dashes of tabasco sauce
You can dice your veggies as big or as small as you like.
That's the time consuming part!!! The rest is easy.

Boil everything for about an hour or until you have the desired
consistency you like. Every batch is different depending on how juicy
all the veggies are. Bottle while hot and you're all set.

I know Summer isn't officially over yet! and we'll probably head back to the beach a few more times, but hubby has gone back to work, Labour Day is tomorrow, so it's close.

We had a fantastic Summer, it was full of wonderful beach days, Picnics, barbecues, weddings. yes, lots of memories were created this summer.

We stayed on the Island the entire summer, took in all the local attractions, spent little money, It was a great summer, one of the hottest summers on record.

Yesterday we received a bit of rain and wind from what was Hurricane Earl, but no property damage what so ever! We were prepared for him. even had a huge thermos of tea made just in case the power went out! Fortunately we didn't need it, but it was comforting to know it was there!

I only had a few Knitting projects on the go this summer, a few headbands, washcloths, but the main one was Jacob's Birthday Sweater. The Bar Harbor Hoodie

I saw it in the current issue of Creative Knitting. I fell in love with it immediately, I'm using Patons Classic wool from my stash, I casted mid- August and worked on it every chance I got.

I'm making the smallest size, which is a 2...but I'm hoping it will come out smaller. So he can wear it this fall/winter season.

I have 20 days left to finish it in.
Then I might make two more one for Nate and one for Dylan.

Poor little Nate waited a long time for George, I casted on July 1st but that was as far as I got.

I became preoccupied with Cari's wedding, Then we were hit with a heat wave, knitting was the last thing I wanted to do!

But when Nate asked me "are you ever going to knit again"? I decided I better just finish it! so I spent the whole day yesterday knitting! and low and behold George appeared!

I think there were more Stars on the Island than were in Hollywood on the weekend there was the Cavendish Beach Music Festival with Taylor Swift,Keith Urban, Lady Antebellum. then on Monday Regis and Kelly took over the Charlottetown waterfront broadcasting their show and their guest included Peter Facinelli,Carson Kressley,Lady Antebellum,Caroline Rhea,Harry Hamlin and Lisa Rinna,John Corbett,Elisha Cuthbert Stephen Moyer,Melanie Fiona.
Kelli (who traded her Vegas tickets for 2 tickets for the show) and I were at yesterdays show It was very exciting!

ON Saturday we had Cari's bridal shower, And this Saturday it's the event of the Summer Cari and Jason's Wedding I'm starting to feel the stress!!!

Our family just keeps on getting bigger!... My Nephew Darren and his lovely wife Jennifer just had their third child. A girl “Charlotte Marie” She was born June 16 @ 4 am. She was 8 lbs 1 oz and is healthy and beautiful!!

My Hubby will be working on Father's Day so we're celebrating today here is a recipe for his favourite Summertime drink!

3/4 cup sugar
3/4 cup water
1 cup lemon juice (4 Lemons)
3 to 4 cups cold water (to dilute)

1 mix sugar and water until the sugar is dissolved completely.
2 While the sugar is dissolving, squeeze the juice from 4 lemons, enough for 1 cup of juice.
3 Add the juice and the sugar water to a pitcher. Add 3 to 4 cups of cold water, more or less to the desired strength. Refrigerate 30 to 40 minutes. If the lemonade is a little sweet for your taste, add a little more straight lemon juice to it.
Serve with ice, sliced lemons.
Serves 6.
